painting using the painting principles of the 1600s. What does that involve? During the last two years I have been working with the painting techniques used during the 1600s. That implies that I stretch my own canvases, as well as coat and prepare them, manufacture pigment for the lasyr, and shred my own colours using purely natural pigments. As a result, my paint scale has very warm earthy tones. I alternate many different layers and lasyrs until the surface becomes very alive. This type of "controlled" technique requires bold brush strokes. It takes a lot of time and energy, but is well worth the effort. I combine technique and craftmanship with a selection of motives that are presented in a realistic way. This means that I don't paint from the imagination, but always have a model in front of me when I work. My goal is to achieve the ultimate unison between skilled craftmanship and a modern message (based on my personal experiences), as well as to train my patience. To be able to create artistically involves self-development, to become more aware of both myself and my environment. To be honest. It takes many years of experience to gain maturity, and it is a challenge. Therefore I celebrate age! And look forward to it. Currently, I am working with a series of paintings where the emphasis is on people working with existential questions, relations such as the ones that exist between mother and daughter, man and woman as well as within the woman herself, between people and time and so on. The people in these pictures are often depicted in a natural size and are therefore more vulnerable. They give a feeling of closeness and life. The canvases are 3m and 2m tall. Work with this series will continue during the next few years and I look forward to an exhibition of these pictures. Between times, I also work with abstract oil paintings that are closely related to my sculpture. There are forms In many of my abstract paintings that reappear in my sculptures as well as in graphics.
